Cheese at Market

facts about cheese

the word ‘Cheese’ originates from the Latin word ‘caseus’, which has been found to mean ‘to ferment/to sour’.

Cheese is made from various animal milks including of cows, buffalo’s, goats, sheep, horses and camels.

to make cheese milk is boiled at a high temperature before the curds and liquid whey is separated, and rennet (an enzyme found in the stomach of mammals) is added.

The yellow to red coloring of cheese is done through the addition of annatto (tropical tree seeds).

Cheese production can be dated back to 8000 BCE when sheep when first domesticated.

By the end of the 2020/2021 year, in the UK, cheese purchases averaged at 150 grams per week

Salty Fish and Cheese

cheese poem by AI
In the dairy's quiet embrace, Where curds and whey entwine, Lies a golden secret, a savory grace, A muse for poets and palates to define.

🧀

Cheddar, aged and wise, Whispers tales of distant past, Its crumbly heart, a sun-kissed prize, Aged to perfection, memories amassed.

🧀

Brie, the soft and creamy queen, Cloaked in snowy rind's embrace, Her flavor blooms, a moonlit dream, A dance of textures, a delicate chase.

🧀

Gorgonzola, bold and blue, Veins of flavor, lightning strikes, Roaming hills of taste anew, A symphony of tang, moonlit nights.

🧀

Parmesan, the noble knight, Grated armor, strength refined, He conquers pasta, rules with might, A legacy of umami, forever intertwined.

🧀

And Camembert, the whispered secret, Hidden in wooden caves, a clandestine affair, Soft as morning mist, a promise kept, Love notes exchanged in dairy air.

🧀

So raise your wine glass, toast the cheese, For it weaves our stories, binds our souls, From humble curds to grand feasts, Cheese—the poetry that life extols.
